  Functions

The Belleville Policemen's Benevolent Association has two basic functions. First and foremost, the P.B.A. is a Benevolent Association. The Belleville P.B.A. Local 28 and its members are committed to serving the community and residents of the Township of Belleville, Essex County, New Jersey through charitable works and donations. Over the years, the Local 28 has been able to come to the aid of many town residents who have been victims of crime, serious medical conditions, or natural disaster.

The Local 28 collects Christmas presents for needy families within the township and delivers them to the children just before Christmas. In addition, Local 28 sponsors youth sports and community groups as well as giving annual scholarships to graduating seniors. The P.B.A. is able to continue these good works with the donations received from the residents and businesses of the Township of Belleville through our annual associate member program and the P.B.A. yearbook.

The second function of Local 28 is that of Labor Union. The P.B.A. represents the police officers of the Township of Belleville in contract negotiations, grievances, and matters pertaining to work conditions and officer safety. The Union works diligently to ensure that its members are fairly compensated and given the training, support, and the equipment needed to do their job effectively

The P.B.A. has in the past been able to work successfully with the Town Administration to resolve many issues that have arisen and hopes to continue to have a good working relationship in the future. The labor related activities of the P.B.A. funded by annual dues paid by its members.
